About our Fourth Grade Groups:

In our weekly groups students will... 

  • build confidence and develop a love of reading, writing and math. 

  • review, practice and extend what students are learning in their fourth grade classroom. 

  • build comprehension skills practicing inferencing and drawing conclusions, finding main idea and details, summarizing, sequencing, and differentiating between fact and opinion.

  • learn to provide text evidence to support comprehension in both fiction and nonfiction texts. 

  • learn to monitor comprehension, ask meaningful questions, make connections and establish a purpose for reading. 

  • develop a stronger vocabulary working with context clues, analogies, idioms, prefixes/suffixes, synonyms/antonyms, and multiple meaning words. 

  • develop a love of literary, expository and procedural writing with a focus on conventions.

  • develop the essential building blocks for a stronger math foundation with a focus on number sense and place value, higher level multiplication and division problems, fractions and decimals, patterns and tables, geometry, probability and statistics, and financial literacy. 

  • develop problem solving skills and strategies for attacking multi-step word problems. 

  • learn in a fun, safe and encouraging environment.
